New Dawn Meals On Wheels Launches A Better Bite Community Kitchen

After more than 30 years of providing meals in partnership with dedicated, local food vendors, New Dawn Meals On Wheels has recently decided to take on the task of production.

New Kitchen

As one of the newest tenants of the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation, the program has started preparing its own meals in the brand new “Better Bite Community Kitchen”.

Appropriately named, A Better Bite will provide fresh and affordable meals to Meals On Wheels clients in the community.

“We are very excited to open our onsite community kitchen, and to be able to produce delicious, nutritionally-balanced meals for our Meals On Wheels clients,” says Claire Turpin, Community Kitchen Program Manager.

“Having access to this space also opens up the opportunity to deliver food and nutrition-based educational programming. We are creating an inclusive environment that fosters a culture of healthy food consumption in our area.”

Event Catering

Along with producing client meals for Meals On Wheels, Better Bite Community Kitchen is available for event catering. With a number of events already under its belt, Better Bite is available for small or large functions and guarantees fresh and healthy snacks and meals that will satisfy all of your taste buds.

Catering revenue directly supports Meals On Wheels, an important community social enterprise.

Meals On Wheels

The Meals On Wheels program began in Sydney in 1972 with a small group of church volunteers. In 1983, New Dawn’s Volunteer Resource Centre took over administration of the program. With the help of dedicated volunteers, New Dawn Enterprises continues to operate the program today, serving approximately 9,000 meals annually.

The success of New Dawn Meals On Wheels depends heavily on the commitment of wonderful volunteers. From preparation to delivery of meals, and through their support of office operations and events, volunteers are important partners in keeping Meals On Wheels clients healthy and independent in their own homes.
